I am sorry to hear that you had trouble with walnut shell blasting
your car. I use a local company (but the best one in Sacramento) and the
job came out great for $400. I was horrified to see how much rust and
bondo the paint was covering. Stripping a car is not for the weak of
heart.
Along the thread of modifying cars, I bought a car that had blown
its second engine and had been greatly abused. I have a 1725 motor in it,
but I managed to get all the original externals back on the motor,
including the mechanical tach. I found larger choke tubes for the Zenith
carbs and bigger jets. I will be installing a Volvo OD with and MG B
driveshaft next winter. (Didn't get around to it this past winter.) The
modifications that I have made came out of neccessity in putting a car
that should have gone to the crusher back on the road. I would imagine
that most people who plan of heavily modifying a car purchased cars that
were similar abused. There is no point in spending a lot of money for a
correct car only to throw most of it away. I encourage people to salvage
cars that are otherwise destined for the junk yard and believe that very
few correct cars are being modified.
