No way! The 404 was 100% French, if you don't count its Italian clothes. What he's probably thinking of is the Austin Cambridge and its big brother the Westminster. Both the Peugeot and the Austins were styled by Pininfarina and came out looking remarkably similar. There was no other relationship between the two and if they share any parts it would be purely coincidental.
