Let me see if I've got this right. I can use the correct overdrive with the correct reduction from a Volvo ( D type_25 reduction) along with a MGB drive shaft. My series III transmission will not work though because since it's did not come with an overdrive to begin with it does not have the correct output shaft. Sorry if I seem a bit confused but my only experience with my transmission is pulling it out, taking it to the shop to be rebuilt, and putting it back in.
