Replacement shocks revisited

I raised the question of suitable non Sunbeam front shocks last week and got a list of suitable candidates along with some doubts as to whether the damping rate would be OK for the Alpine.

So - has anyone actually used non Sunbeam dampers on an Alpine. What were the results.
