I had checked my mileage in my Harrington LeMans but by fillling the tank first and then driving 20 miles and topping it off again. I knew I was getting about 17 giving me 200 mile range tops. A year later I was driving cross country on back roads and not paying attention, passed the magic 200 mile mark. The next sign said the next gas was 38 or so miles. It was getting dark so I started coasting down hills, driving at 40, a lot of praying and coasted into a Whiting Bros station with the motor still idling.
I started pumping and it took almost 13 gallons but the book said the tank was 11.75 capacity. I found the "weights & measures" conversion for "imperial gallons" later.
