Not if you install a voltage regulator with it. That's the way mine is wired (my S II guage crapped out, so I swapped the mechanism from a later guage into it, keeping the same dial). Keep in mind also that there are two temperature sensors listed for Alpines. One for the S I-II cars which have no voltage regulator, and the other for S III-V, which use the voltage regulator. It is important to run the right temp sensor, or your temp readings will also be off. I don't know of a sure way to ID the sensors, other than to order them from Rick.
