Actually cars with hot cams have the greatest advantage due to absolute lack of volumetric efficiency at low RPMs.

On a slightly heavier note, I have heard that gear reduced starters are available to replace the lucas starter. The starter is from some japaneese car, that probably licenced the lucas starter, then modified the design,
Tilton sells them for $$$$$, but if we could find out the application, we could buy one off the shelf.
