caged needles for gearbox shafts

While restoring my (part-synchro) gearbox, it was suggested that I
search for caged bearings to replace the 3x27 needle bearings used on
the shafts, for reassembly convenience and better future operation. I
got them measured, and then went out on the 'Net to find some (none
available in Canada). I found some made by INA, via Erie Bearing,
available in California for US$6.24 each, minimum 10, plus shipping. I
only need three, so I'd like to know:
1. Am I nuts in making this swap? Would less-than-27 needles in a cage
perform better (reassembly convenience is secondary)?
2. If No to #1, anyone want to join me?
BTW, the replacement number (or specs) are K19x23x17 in case anyone out
there can look something up.
