There is no difference in the throw out button "on the clutch" between the coil type cover and the diaphragm type. Its a big flat metal disc that tansmits the force of the TO bearing to the cover spring(s). The reason that the available TO bearing reportedly works on the later appication is because the TO fork is different on the later alpines, and the roller TO bearing fits that fork.

The fingers on all the alpine clutches are covered by that TO button. Your teflon coating will go away very quickly being rubbed off the bearing by misalignment of the bearing to the cover button.

Look at the wear marks on a stock TO bearing. You'll never find one with wear rings that are in the dead center of the bearings ring. This is because the greatest load on the TO bearing is at the WORST point in the arc, where the greatest misalignment occurs.

This is one of those fixes that looks like a great thing, and you have to think to yourself, what didnt the factory do it that way? Pretty sure they made roller bearings sometime before the carbon copper bearing.

OK, Ive ranted long enough on this. I sincerely hope that if you use the roller bearing, that it lasts forever, and doesnt vibrate at all. Cause if it doesnt pan out, the tranny will be back out on your garage floor.
