Jumping Speedos

I've a speedometer that bounces around quite a lot and reads accurately only
at a dead stop. While at driving speeds (about 60-65, I think) it
fluctuates between 60-80 mph readings. Some days, perhaps dependant upon
temperature, humidity, or the phase of the moon it is worse than others. I
know someone here mentioned doing their own rebuild recently (although they
had spare in case they muffed it). I've almost the exact same problem with
my Tachometer. Has anyone else had experience with this and are there any
good places I could mail it to if it needed rebuilding? For the obvious
reasons, I'd prefer to send it to someone experienced with Alpine gauges.
Any other suggestions on possible sources of the problem other than old age?
