Steve- it must be a virus spreading around. My series 2 suddenly sprouted the same symptoms last week. I haven't had time to crawl under and take a look yet. Partly due to cowardice - it's parked on my driveway which has a 6 degree slope fore to aft and two degrees port to starboard which is not an ideal work platform for a jack.

So, fellow listers, there are two of us looking for advice on this problem.

The slave appears to move properly and the transmission seems to shift from gear to gear just fine when the engine is off. But when I start it, it won't go into a forward gear. If I try to shift into reverse, it grinds. If I try to start it in gear with the clutch in, it jumps forward as if the clutch wasn't pressed. >>
