There was about a 75 foot level clear space behind the car. After fully warming up the engine to reduce the chance of stalling, he put it in reverse and restarted the engine with the clutch pedal depressed and the car started bucking backwards. At about the 65 foot mark, just as he was reaching to turn off the ignition, the clutch freed up. I asked him what he would do if that hadn't worked. He said he'd do the same thing in first gear and at least get it back to where it was.
