Sometimes you will get some movement in the slave cyl. but not enough to actuate the clutch. First check your adjustment rod between the slave and clutch lever to make sure there is enough travel to move the clutch. If the car has been sitting, the hydraulic system could need bleeding. This is a good idea anyway, since brake fluid tends to pick up water from the air, and should be changed regularly. Are you using the recommended Castrol LIMA brake fluid?

I rebuilt my slave cyl. recently, and tried to bleed it, but couldn't get prime or pedal. It was late, so I turned in. The next morning I checked the clutch, and had prime and pedal (insert Twilight Zone Music). I've been driving it ever since.
