I use a freeware program called "Cookie Cutter"( available only for
Macs), have my browser set to warn me whenever a cookie is being
deposited, and occasionally, I go into Netscape preferences in the
system folder and trash the "Magic Cookie" file. All this keeps me to
about one or two unsolicted mails a week. The downside is that some
sites will request up to ten times (if you refuse) to set a cookie
(especially those offering free web pages) and renew the request every
time you move from page to page! However, this at least gives me the
illusion that I am still in control and fighting back!
