Hey, guys:
I've been a member of the list now for a year and, although I haven't
really contributed too much, I have been keeping up with the information
that passes through. I bought a BRG Series V last September, my second
Alpine since I got involved with Sunbeams in 1979. My first Alpine was a
Series II but I didn't have it long enough to learn very much about them.
I ended up getting into Tigers and have owned four of those beastly
machines to date. I still have my BRG Mk1A to go with my Alpine. As a
result, I am much more familiar with the details of Tigers than with
Alpines, hence the following questions (all pertaining to Series V's).
1. Should my Alpine have a trunk mat? If so, what material was it made
from and is it readily available, or are there reproduction mats?
2. Was there some sort of a spare tire cover or was the spare tire left
visible?
3. Should my Alpine have an ashtray? There seems to be a place for it but
the PO had it covered up with carpet.
4. Should the gear lever have a rubber boat around it and/or a leatherette
type of shifter boot? (mine has both...is this right?)
5. What does the original gearshift knob look like and are they available?
Well, that ought to do it for now. I'm sure there will be more later.
I've just now started on doing some refurbishing work. Actually, the car
is pretty decent, although there are some minor rust problems in the normal
areas. It needs just a general freshening up to make it really nice. I
plan on using the car as semi-daily transport, as well as entering the odd
car show here and there. Actually, the car show duties are saved for the
Tiger, but hey, I think it would be fun to have one of each model there for
people to look at. We have precious few Sunbeams of any kind here in the
Oklahoma City area and I will certainly be proud to show off the Rootes
cars against their competitors at our annual British car show!
Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can give me on these questions.
