Tim,

I have done some research into the optimum Ford V-6/5-speed
combination. According to the How to Build and Modify the Ford 60
degree V-6 book, the best 2.8 to use for performance one out of a
truck. The camshaft bearings are larger which allows for a greater
degree of freedom with respect to camshaft profile. Also the block is
somewhat stronger. I do not know if the truck oil pan will work with the
Alpine.

With regard to transmissions, the truck T-5 has different gear ratios
that the V-8 Mustang unit and the turbo T-bird unit. I believe the T-54
(?) from the turbo T-bird is the best choice. I would imagine the power
curve of the turbo 4 would be more similar to the V-6 than the power
curve of the Mustang 5.0. I don't think the I-4 or V-6 Mustangs used a
T-5 5-speed.

On the topic of fitment, I have read an article or two on the V-6
conversion as well as using a T-5 in a Tiger. All the articles report
that some degree of transmission tunnel modifications is necessary.

The bummer of the situation is, you cannot use the 2.9 or 4.0 due to the
exhaust port locations. They dump right into the steering box.

Good Luck and Keep us Posted,

Tom Hill
