Paul, there is a spring on the front carb that pulls the choke back in.
It may be the wrong one, it should be a very light tension spring.
The spark plugs are a tricky issue. I know that the R stands for
resistor pllugs which were intended to reduce noise on the radio which
would also tend to reduce the spark at the plugs slightly. If you don't
have a radio, the standard plugs are better. Jarrid might have more info
on this.
P.S....your car looks a lot like mine except for the dual valve covers
:)
