When I worked at Sears and had to replace old exhaust parts, I used
plenty of penatrating oil and a hammer to break loose the joints.
Beating the pipes around the joints helps loosen up the rust and allows
the parts to come apart. I used a twisting motion back and forth to get
the parts freed.
