The previous line of Sunbeams in the form of Sunbeam Talbots and proper
Alpines may not have been too successful on the racing circuits, but they
had a number of wins in the Monte Carlo Rallies from the early to mid
fifties and even 1956 and I believe they came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd in 1955.
Even the ladies rally came up a winner with Sheila Van Damn (not sure on
the spelling) in a Sunbeam Talbot. They definitely should have promoted
their wins of these years more agressively.
