I used what I believe was an original upper rad hose for my
old SI, and it DID cause problems with the rad inlet pipe -
I had to solder it back once, then the second time it cracked
at the rad itself and I had to fix it with brass shim stock.

So if you're not too stubborn (or stupid) like me, I'd go for
the more flexible hose and save yourself a lot of grief!
