RE: Gasoline in the oil

After a bit of thought I came to the same conclusion as you. We get a bit of gas in there all the time as well as a bunch of other pollutants that the oil is designed to collect. Considered that gasoline being a nice cleaning agent I figured I'd gone one above using a detergent oil and probably really cleaned out the inside of my engine. I still plan on changing it out before the regular 2,000 miles but I may let it go a little higher than 100, I'll see what it looks l.

Tried putting a new diaphragm in the fuel pump but it did not work. Without the time to try and figure out why (we are down to just this one car for a few weeks and needed it fixed _now_) I went ahead with an electric fuel pump. The mechanic I was working with had one that puts out 3 psi maximum and he assured me that the pressure regulator would not be needed when I asked him to put one on. He'd used the pump on several of his racers and swore by its dependability. I'd still like to try and fix the mechanical one either as a fall-back or as a main and keep the electric as a fail safe. Figured I'd wait for a thread on restoring your fuel pump. . .

What did you decide to do about the gas in the oil situation? I like the idea of draining it and running it for a while and changing oil again. I do this every 10000, miles or so. I change the oil at 500 miles after an oil change and the stuff runs really clean for a long time. Actually when you think about it, the oil is coming in contact with the combustion chamber all the time. So I'd say we were all getting a little gas in the oil all the time. That's the reason it needs changed. I never knew it to hurt to change more often than required.
