Keep in mind that the "clunk" is not always the fault of worn splines.
In fact on my car, after tightening and tightening the knockoffs, I found that it was the read axle nuts that were loose, but by then the key was nearly sheared and the axles werent even salvageable.
Damn 4.55 gearset.
