Robert,
Is the parking brake cable rusty? I usually find this occuring on any
car that's about 10 years old. My Chevy C20 pickup, had a rusty cable
and would not release the parking brake on one side. I had to remove the
drum and pull the cable back to release the brake (later I replaced the
cable). You might have to do the same. I remember that my Alpine's rear
brakes were locked from all those years too. When I rebuilt the entire
brake system, two months ago, Doug Jennings told me to replace the brake
shoes (even though the linings looked new). He said that rust will
develop, over the years, under the linings, and push them off the brake
lining, (from the metal shoe0, and break the bonding glue. He was right,
I could peel off the linings with my hands. It's no big deal on
replacement, about $15.00 for the new shoes.
