steering column SV

HAPPY NEW YEAR BEAMERS!!!!
I just replaced the steering box on my SV and everything on that end of
the steering column seems fine , but I have a lot of play on the
opposite end-right where the inner column passes through the ball
bearing race.(near the steering wheel) Has anybody encountered this and
what are the possible cures?
