Found my new baby, maybe

Thanks to Tim O'brien I believe I have found my new baby. It may, however,
have a questionable history. I'm wondering if it sounds familiar to any of
you locals?
It's a '65 or '67 (The guy doesn't know) that the guy (Robert) got from a
friend who owed him money so he gave him the car instead. The guy who gave
him the car got it from his dad who may or may not have been the original
owner. Robert needs the $500 bucks I offered him so he can stay out of
jail, where he just got done doing an 8 month stint. Nice. Sounds like the
excuses I get from my family! Anyhow, the body is perfect with no dings or
rust that I could see. It's Carnival red but needs painting, has the top
frame but no top, an interior with some sort of diamond patterned stitching,
is missing the grille bar and right front headlight, straight bumpers in
fair condition, all instruments though maybe some lights were missing from
the dash. It has those wheels that are like discs with no holes or
anything. The ignition is out because he had to have a key made for it
(hmm...). He also doesn't have the keys for the trunk or doors (hmm hmm),
all of which is unlocked. I didn't get a chance to look under the hood, but
the car, though not registered since 1987, was supposedly running before he
went to jail. He said the car lacked an ID plate so the CHP (DMV?) put one
inside the door (Ahem?!). IT'S PERFECT!

Does this car sound familiar to anyone?

I'm going pick it up this weekend after I get a trailer hitch put on the
Subaru. Any thought on this car's heritage? The way I understand it I can
just register it without penalty with a bill of sale since it is "off the
books", not having been registered in over 10 years.

Anyone want to buy a 1725 motor and synchro tranny?

Thanks again to Tim, Tim, Bob, Bill, and everyone else for all your help in
my little adventure.
