VIN#

I've been told the VIN # is completely gone from the sV I will be picking
up Friday, which is why the DMV put a new plate on the door. I know there
are various places to find it on the car and the engine. Where should I
look? Sure would be nice to know what year the car is and to find out its
history:-)
