The ring gear bolts are internal to the third member, and one must
1) pull both axles.
and 2) Remove the third member from the axle case, in order to
gauge replacement of the bolts.
As you have likely read, some of us have found the bolts to
loosen with time and or abuse.
As for your shock situation, the series IV rear end will have used
the telescopic shock, not the lever action shock that would be the correct
one for your car.
While it would be possible to modify your chassis to accept the
later shock, I would discourage you from it for more reasons than
time allows for right now.
I do believe however that the ball takeoffs for the early lever shocks
is povided from a removable piece that is sandwiched between the
axle case and the leaf springs, and thus if you dont mind the empty
studs on the SIV case "where the telescopics go", all should function
well.
