the fins beckon...

Hi All,

I'm considering the purchase of a 1962 Alpine SII and wanted some
advice, as I have little experience with these cars. Here’s the basic
info: rebuilt engine (from a donor SII), factory hardtop, Tiger seats,
wide minilites, lowered front suspension (springs were cut), some rusty
spots that have been patched; needs paint (is blue, was white), a new
interior and soft top. The owner is asking $5000, which seems a little
high to me. He says it runs fine, although it's a bit loud considering
the lack of interior deadening and glass-pack exhaust. He also has an
extra OD trans that he would throw in for extra $. Does this sound
reasonable? Any specific things I ought to ask or check? A major
difficulty is that the car is located in Georgia, and I am in Tennessee,
so I can't just run over and inspect it.

Thanks for your help!

Chris
