In order to prevent this "burn out" I ran a fuse between the alternator
(output) and the ammeter (input). Apparently it is very common to burn
out an ammeter. I'm using a 35amp fuse to accomplish this. After some
of the revelations of Jarrid's regarding all of the othe unprotected
circuits (wipers, fan, all lights, ignition, overdrive & solenoid) I am
considering installing another fuse block under the dash to protect
this stuff. I'm also planning a custom stereo, so it's probably a
foregone conclusion.
