Q1

It's kind of hard to explain, but here goes!

In the boot, on ser 3 to 5, there is a chassis cover panel on each side,
which stands about one inch inboard of the rear chassis leg. This allows
for the rear spring shackle.
I'd like to know how the gap between the vertical cover panel and the
actual chassis leg is closed, just aft of the shackle.
Should there be a strip of metal, say one inch by three inches,
which closes the gap, to protect the rearmost section of the chassis leg?
If so, is this strip attatched to the small quarter-circle shaped floor
corner piece, which lies under the tank?

I've tried all my graphic / photo / book resources for clues
and haven't got access to an original Alpine to compare.
As you might have gathered my ser III is being completely rebuilt
from a messy lump of rust, 'bondo' and old tin cans in this area.

I just can't figure out how this gap was originally closed.
I might try some ASCII art if I'm not being clear.

Q2
is the rear valence *welded* to the rear jacking points where they
protrude through?
(I know the rear bumper mounts are *not* welded to the valence)

------

thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Andy
