Series 1 (rebound straps and lever shocks)

I already told you of my dilema on the strap. I have the car on jack
stands under the rear diff. Loosened the U bolt, undid the straps at
that top. There is a 1/4" gap now between the axle housing and the
spring, but the strap is still sandwiched between the housing and a flat
metal piece. How do I get that separated from the housing so I can pull
the strap out and feed the new one in?

Also, I decided to remove the shocks and clean them up and replace the
fluid. When I removed the two bolts from the top on the left one it
came right of and disconnected from the round ball type bolt where it
connects to the U bolt. Was it supposed to just pop right off without
any effort or is there supposed to be some bushing or something in
there.

The right side wasn't so easy. When I tried to remove it from the
"ball" it didn't come off.
So I tried to get the bolt out of the bracket but it wouldn't budge
either. What is the best way to get this off. (the ball) or remove the
bolt.

Also, the manual says to use Armstrong Shock Absorber Fluid No. 264.
What would be the modern day equivalent.
Rob
