My first thought is that you have a stuck oil pressure relief valve.
This is located at the oil filter location. It looks a little bit like
a hex headed bolt on the side of the assembly that the oil filter is
attached to. It faces the radiator. Internall this is a spring loaded
relief valve which opens if the oil pressure gets too high. If it is
stuck in the closed position it might account for the symptoms you
described.

You might want to:
1. Start the engine and confirm that you still have abnormaly high
pressure at high rpm.

2. Remove this valve and clean/examine.

3. Replace the valve, start the engine and see if this fixes the
problem.
