I am not sure. Maybe it was a mistake to think about it simply because it
relieves "pressure" and you were dealing with pressure problems. I guess
you are right. The system that feeds oil into the oil filter probably does
not have much input from general engine pressure. A quick check would be
to disconnect the hose to the PCV, slip on a short hose with the other end
blocked by a bolt, and turn the side plate hose down to dump the fumes down
like the earlier cars, and see if it has any effect. But, like you said,
it probably won't.
