Motor Milestone

I am pleased to announce that I installed my motor today. So, after
sitting for nearly ten years my Alpine finally looks like a car. I
can't wait to have a beer and smoke a stogie in celebration.

The process went very smoothly. I had the help of a friend and we were
able install the motor in just under an hour. Had little trouble
getting it to fit over the clutch and only had to make a few
adjustments. Wish all of my mechanical efforts went as smoothly.
Clutch works great. Some of you may remember that I tried to bleed the
slave without the clutch in place (why won't this darn thing work?).

The only remaining major work is to rebuild the carburetors. I still
have to finish polishing one of the carb bodies before I can complete
this, but I anticipate have the carbs done in the next 2-3 weeks. The
last major expense will be to buy new tires to go with my beautiful new
Minilite copy aluminum wheels. Will probably do that in 2 weeks.
After that I will have the front end aligned and the exhaust completed
with muffler and resonator.

All that will remain at that point is to tow the vehicle down to
Smitty's in San Diego to get it started up. I just don't trust myself
to be prepared for the unexpected and I feel much more comfortable
having an expert on hand for the intial startup and to help certify
that the electrical system is hooked up properly. I anticipate this
occurring within the next month and a half.

So it looks as if I will soon be happily tooling around town in my
little sports car, enjoying the sunny California weather that seems to
have disappeared recently. Wish me luck. Anyone who wants a ride is
welcome to stop by and give it a whirl. See you all at SUNI III!!!!
