Chris,

The brake line seals by forcing the relatively soft steel in the shape of a vee or
the so-called *bubble* bewteen the nut and the corresponding shape in the master
cylinder. After some time, or repeated mates/demates, the steel can become work
hardened and/or can develop a hairline crack which will leak no matter how tight
the nut. You shouldn't have to tighten down very tight to seal it. Might also be
some foreign material which is preventing a good seal.

Sounds like it might be time for a new brake line. (unless you find that there is
a speck of something under the flare.
