Now I don't know why, because I'm not a machinist or chemical engineer,
but...I have heard (from my machinist and others) that it's not a good
idea to use 20w50 in an engine except in the hottest of conditions. I
believe that Castrol GT has detergent in it. It's also not a good idea
to use oil with detergent in it during break-in of a recent rebuild.
Again, I don't know why, this is just what I've been told.

It has been recommended to me that it is best to use the thinnest oil
you can get away with safely. I have been told that here in LA, I
should use 10w30 in the winter and 10w40 in the summer. I have no idea
if this is right, or best, but I'm sure it will generate some comments!
 I'm guessing that part of the reason for using thinner oil is lack or
pressure during startup.
