When I started buying new parts to restore my SII, I was puzzled by why
the door pulls (like the window cranks) cost more from SS compared to
Victoria British. So I ordered one from each place. The one from SS
was smooth, well chromed, etc. Over all I high grade part. The one
from VB has pits, flashing, the chrome is thin. I can't remember what
the price difference was but the SS part was worth the cost.
Resent topics on the list reminded me of a situation in my parents early
courting days. My mother bought my father a Sunbeam Talbot for $100.
It needed a new axel half shaft which was replace for the cost of the
part $5. They kept the car at my gradmothers. She was not please to
have it there, so the car was sold. My mother tells this story with a
somewhat bitter tone. It is hard to tell now how much incident effected
my mother's relationship with her mother in-law. So the moral is: keep
your cars, just not with your in-laws.
