Wow, you and I are both doing the same thing at the same time... how 'bout
that? I too have my all-syncro trans apart and just received my stuff from
SS Fri. PM. My 1-2 shift fork rod was BROKEN where the second gear detent
was (the detent ball was also lodged up it the fork) and both lock nuts
seemed loose when it came apart, I know the torque is like 80ft/lbs... Any
one else see there nuts were loose? I'm also replacing the front bearing and
2nd syncro to be safe. Did you order a new front nut too?

I just looked at my layshaft cluster... no cracks at all. Any cracks are
not good. You may want to have it magnafluxed at a good machine shop to see
what they think. SS does list the gear cluster in their catalog, but it's
the most expensive part there... of course. I wouldn't trust it, any small
cracks will only get bigger. My layshaft itself is slightly worn on the top,
where the brgs push down. Not too bad, so I'm reusing it. If the lock tab
slot was remachined, I could rotate it so the worn area is on the bottom, but
they didn't want the thing to rotate.

Good luck.
