Well, I went looking for my catalog from British Wiring but it is missing at
the moment. I did find a notation that British 14 strand wire equals 18
gauge, 28 strand equals 14 gauge, 44 strands equals 12 gauge, and 65 strands
equals 10 gauge. Each strand of wire is .30mm diameter.
I might put in a plug here for British Wiring. Their address is 20449
Ithaca, Olympia Fields, IL 60461. Phone/Fax 708 481-9050. The catalog has
a lot of valuable information and what some of you might find important - you
can order individual wires to match the original. Thought you'ld never be
able to match that brown wire with purple stripe? The have 'em! Add in a
bunch of hard to find electrical fittings, connectors, etc.
I bought a wiring harness from them for my '53 Supreme Alpine. It is
absolutely gorgeous, all the colors are correct and it looks like the lengths
are proper. I'm just reluctant to install it until all the dirty work is
done on the car. And the cost was reasonable, $305 including shipping. I
think Tiger and series Alpine harnesses are a little cheaper.
Seeking telephone advice on May 2? Smitty's May Diversion is going on from
noon to 4:00PM PDT in San Diego. Telephone (619) 233-7937. Of course, the
value of any advice dispensed will probably be inverse to the number of trips
to the ice chest.
Better still, any Sunbeamers in the SoCal area, motor on down to Smitty's
Sunbeam Shop "where the burgers are as greasy as everything else".
Hope all the M. B. 'beamers and Buttonwillow racers have a great weekend too!

My SII harness uses 14, 28 and 44-strand wire. (Old?) British wiring uses a
different metric system.
