Overheating SV

I drive my SV to work everyday and last Thursday I noticed the temperature
gauge climbing when I came to a stop in traffic. (well above the 85C).
Close to the 120C, this is unusual for my Alpine. I live in MA so the
weather roughly 50F-60F.

I immediately assumed that my thermostat had stuck. I turned on the
heater and popped the hood latch to allow more air flow. The temperature
gauge eventually went down after driving for awhile.

I did replace the thermostat and the radiator cap but I am still having this
temperature climbing in traffic. The condition of the radiator is good
(cleaned about 4 years ago and looks great inside). I did open the
radiator cap and let the car run until the thermostat opened. The fluid
appears to be circulating really well.

1) Is there anything else I should be checking???

2) Could the gauge or sending unit be faulty (inaccurate)? Is there Ohm
readings for the sending unit at normal and hot temperatures? Would a
ground problem cause a bad reading?

3) Would it be worth running a flush through the system? Possibly sludge at
the bottom of the radiator, however, it looks very good up top and the flow
is good)

4) Could this be a water pump problem? (I think it is original).
No leaks, bearing feels reasonably tight.

5) I have been working on the horns (electrical work). Could this be a
indirect cause? I even went as far as backing the advance off the
distributor....

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
