Clutch release levers & mounts

Putting together a transmission for the Alpine.
Using a ser 5 engine, flywheel, clutch disc, cover and release bearing.
Mating this to a ser III Overdrive box.
I'm sure I'll need to use the smaller release bearing pivot arm from my spare
ser 5 box.
Funny thing is, on the ser 5 box, the bearing only moves about half an inch
forwards and backwards. Surely there should be more travel on the bearing
than this? (I've also got an early non-syncro series 4 box, with a later
bearing and bearing pivot arm fitted. its the same, about half an inch
travel.
The different arm on the series 3 box moves the bearing fore and aft about
one and a half inches.)

Any ideas where the problem is ?

Thanks in advance

Andy
