Andy,
the clutch on the early cars is a different operation type to the later
diaphragm clutch and the movement required is less.
If you are using the late flywheel and clutch cover, change to the late
fork and mounting yoke and you will be OK.
also remember that the slave cylinder goes on the gearbox side of the
bell housing.
