Thanks to tons of work by my friend Jim Leach the Alpine rebuilt engine came
to life at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, PDT.
In about 10 running minutes no oil leaks were apparent. Water leaks from the
thermostat housing. Needs carb adjustment and tuning but was basically
there. Rebuilt tach does not work, I probably put it in wrong but I
carefully followed the notes I made taking it off. Maybe I screwed up the
wire loop, I don't think so but??
I read Christopher's post regarding difficulty hot starting due, apparently,
to the tight clearances. Thanks to that information I will not be too
discouraged if it happens to me too, it helps to know in advance what might
happen.
Tonight we will restart it, bring it up to temp and retorque the head then
adjust and tune. With a bit of interior work [at least put the seats back
in], binder from Haggerty and some luck it should be on the early break in
phase this weekend.
