The supercharger does not have to mount beneath the carbs.

Many carburreted engines use blowers and even turbos with a bonnet
around the carbs that allow the whole setup to be compressed.
These are known as blow through configs.

This requires that the fuel pressure be regulated and boost compensated
so that you can still get fuel into the carbs under boost.

A propperly setup fuel injection wouldnt care if the compressor is on the
up or down stream side of the throttle, and if you are going to spend
the money on a $1500 compressor, why not go the extra mile and
inject it too?
The motor would be much easier to set up anyhow.
