Jay:My vote is to switch back to the manually adjustable type. I've had both
and if the "self adjuster" stops adjusting, you're pretty much out of luck.
Mine got to the point of adjusting the brakes so well they locked all the time.
I had to force that little adjuster wheel back a couple of "clicks" with a
wrench a couple of times to get the brakes to work properly and this is NOT the
way to do it (and I won't vouch for the safety of this method, which I'm sure
is not good). With the manual setup, it's very easy to do the adjustment and
you have more choice on how to do it. If you do stick to the "self adjuster",
Sunbeam Specialties used to carry them and the other suppliers (Tiger Tom,
etc.) may also.
