The bad thing about this giant bolt (yep, 1 inch works for me too) is that
the oil pan has a treaded insert for the plug that stuck out over the hex
part and would prevent a full grab by the wrench/socket/cresent. I solved
this by draining the oil, sealing the hole with something (I forget what) and
grinding the offending lip off. So now the full hex of the bolt is available
for the tool. Problem solved. The scary part was making sure none of the
grindings were finding their way back up into the pan...
