OD Question

Hello:
Looks like this is the week my overdrive will finally go into my Series
V. I'm still debating whether to stick with my existing 4:22
differential or switch to a 3:89 (I'd better decide soon!). The general
consensus of those I've talked to is the 3:89. My only concern is that I
do a good deal of hill (and mountain) driving here in Southern
California and with the 4:22, accelerating up these in 4th at 50-60 MPH+
is no problem. I remember with my past Alpines with 3:89's, with this
kind of driving I'd always have trouble getting the right gear and
having to constantly shift between 3rd & 4th and back.

Anyway, since I'm new to the wonderful world of overdrives, I have heard
they are not as strong for acceleration runs (such as in autocrossing).
What's the opinion out there on this? I understand you're not supposed
to shift hard with overdrive engaged, but what about hard shifting from
standard 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears and down again? Is an overdrive up to
this?

Thanks!
Steve Sage
