Actaully you are not supposed to shift hard ever, with or without OD.
The underlying weakness in the long, skinny OD mainshaft, which under
clutch dumping conditions in 1st or 2nd, will twist, which is of course
without OD engaged.

Any tire slipping conditions could be bad since the traction usually comes
back quickly, and this is just as bad as dumping the clutch.
