Dear Alpines list,
I never thought this day would come but I have to sell my beloved Alpine
for personal reasons (starting a family and moving to a less hospitable
climate - Montreal).
I bought the car six years ago with 40,000 original (and documented!)
miles. It needed some minor cosmetic work (reupholstery, carpet, new soft
top, all new weatherstripping, new paint) and the expected mechanical work
- brakes, new rubber in the brake booster, clutch and brake master
cylinders, etc.). There are no "kluges" or duct-tape-and-bailing-wire
repairs. All the work was professionally done, and all the parts came from
Sunbeam Specialties. The car has ALWAYS been garaged, and has never been
in an accident.
It has two custom features but can easily be made "stock and original"
because I've kept the stock parts. (1) I replaced the steering wheel with
the Lecarra Custom (with Sunbeam logo in the center) that Ric at Sunbeam
Specialties sells (but I still have the original steering wheel and horn
ring if the buyer wants it); (2) I installed a CD changer in the trunk and
CD player inside the car, and of course these can be removed for the purist.
It was a great car and a bargain when I bought it for $5,000 and I've put
more than $7,500 into it to "do it right." I have taken advice from many
list members over the years and have succeeded in making it "bullet-proof
daily runner." This is a truly special car for someone who wants a
low-mileage, restored, completely reliable Alpine. Hemmings has been
listing some Alpines that are not in as good a condition for $13,000, which
I think is too high for our little cars. I'd like to get $10,000 but I'm a
reasonable man and will sell for less if I don't get better offers :)
There are pictures of the car on my web site, along with a list of repairs
I've made. Go to http://www-ccrma.stanford.edu/~levitin/alpine.html
Thanks for all of your support over the years!
