Kurt,
The brake equalization port for the master cylinder sounds like it is not
being vented to the resevouir tank of the master cylinder. This could be
caused by a couple of problems. The first would be mis-adjustment or binding
causing the m/cyl. piston not to return to the end of its bore and against
the snap ring. Check this first. The other cause could be a swelling of the
rubber seal. I assume you used dot 4 fluid? You can see this port if you have
a plastic resevouir on your m/cyl. If you have an earlier Series Alpine you
won't be able to see it. Hope this helps.
On your sealing problem. I have used the silicone sealer that you buy from
Jaguar. It is white in color. I am impressed with it. Even after soaking a
part in carb. cleaner this stuff still is in fair shape where other silicones
would be a gooey mess. It costs alittle more but I think it is worth it. I
would not hesitate to use it in place of the cork gasket ends. Just be sure
to clean all the oil of the areas to seal. Remember "Cleanliness is next to
Godliness" when sealing joints.
